The 2025 Competition for the Transmission and Promotion of Beijing Central Axis Officially Launched

On June 14th, the Competition for the Transmission and Promotion of Beijing Central Axis (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) for the year 2025 was officially launched at Qingcheng Palace of Xiannong Altar in Beijing.

Zhang Lixin, Director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau and Head of the Office for the World Heritage Nomination and Conservation of the Beijing Central Axis, stated in her opening remarks that since the launch of the Competition in 2021, it has been successfully held four times, attracting over 460,000 participants from 40 countries and regions and receiving more than 200,000 submissions. As the first edition since the successful inscription of the Beijing Central Axis on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this year's Competition focuses on value interpretation and innovative transformation, encouraging broader public participation—particularly among young people—to experience, protect, and carry forward the rich cultural heritage of the Beijing Central Axis.

During the launch ceremony, the Organizing Committee showcased highlights of outstanding works from previous editions through a video compilation. Lv Zhou, Chair of the Expert Committee, stated that the Competition would enhance the interpretation and innovative revitalization of the Beijing Central Axis culture, establish an integrated system covering "research, interpretation, communication, and innovation," and serve as a platform for innovation practices in cultural heritage protection and transmission.

The 2025 Competition features four main tracks: "Tech-Enabled Beijing Central Axis", "Visual Beijing Central Axis", "Beijing Central Axis Ambassadors", and "Musical Beijing Central Axis." In the "Visual Beijing Central Axis" track, the short video sub-track showcases the unique charm of the Beijing Central Axis from diverse perspectives while exploring the applications of AI in cultural inheritance to foster cultural exchange and innovation; the short play sub-track encourages creators to follow the principle of "small entry points, deep insights, and broad dissemination" to re-narrate the historical stories of the Beijing Central Axis in a youthful tone; the graphic design sub-track focuses on visual arts to interpret the architectural aesthetics, historical context, and humanistic values of the Beijing Central Axis.

Liu Yusheng, Deputy Director of the Service Bureau of the National Cultural Heritage Administration; Zhang Lixin, CPC Secretary and Director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau; Chen Wei, Second-level Inspector of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee; and Wu Wenxue, Deputy Secretary, Board Member, and General Manager of Beijing Publishing Group presented appointment letters to the experts.

Li Jianzhong, Deputy Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Communist Youth League Committee; Ren Jianghao, Deputy District Head of Dongcheng District; and Zhang Xiaojia, Member of the Standing Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of Xicheng District, presented appointment letters to the experts.

Representatives of each track's organizing partners took the stage to present their plans and receive certificates.

From the launch until September, the Competition will progress through five stages: registration, qualification review, preliminaries, semi-finals, and the final.
